What kind of programming job can i get in southern california?
I don’t mind making minimum wage. I’m planning to work & study at same time to further my programming career.
Is it being outsourced to India?
Doubtful, Most programmers are being laid off, cause it is easily outsourced. Security is a more stable field.
Considering what companies are hiring for which positions, look for golden arches. You have a much better chance of landing a job at McDonalds than competing with thousands of laid-off programming professionals who are so desperate for work that they’d take a programming job for minimum wage.
We’re hiring, but generally even in an analyst position we expect a BS or some experience, so you couldn’t get in the door on my team. You might be able to go into an operations or help desk position if you can find one in your area, this is a good way to get your foot in the door at a company with a larger I/T department.
Of course, So. Cal. is nearly the worst place you could be living. (The bay area is probably slightly worse…) You’re in a tough market saturated with unemployed software engineers…you’re going to have to just keep applying until something sticks.
