Do you think Open Source will ever be really accepted, understood and used in the corporate sector?

I am into Open Source. Every year, the competition with proprietary software just keeps on getting harder. It doesn’t help that our principal does not understand how our market works as well. It’s all about the numbers and the worst of it is that the principal has no money for marketing.

Open Source is used in a number of corporate sector companies. However, is really accepted or understood, the answer to that is no. But if you deal with companies this needs to be explained. One of the problems with Open Source software is that there is no "paid" support so if something goes wrong there is no fall back position.

Since a lot of companies can’t accept down time they sign up package solutions to guarantee uptime of their solution. So there is no right or wrong answer in truth, but the important thing is to be able to explain to the clients what the impact of using Open Source software.
