How come Linux runs faster on my PC then Windows XP?
My friend told me that its more stable then Microsoft product, so I thought I would give it a try. Since I started using Linux, my computer doesn’t crash, freeze, or even slow down. It boots up 5 times faster, and shuts down faster. I would think Windows would be more stable since you pay for it and its made by Microsoft, which is one of the richest company’s in the world?
Because
1)Since I started using Linux, my computer doesn’t crash, freeze, or even slow down
GNU/Linux run the Graphical User Interface as a process hence if it crashes just kill it like any other process as a result it also runs faster as Graphical API is not a basis which it runs on (i.e UNIX does not run graphics by default)
Code base is frequently revised and fixed hence less errors
2)It boots up 5 times faster shuts down faster
It only runs specific service that is required for a UNIX system nothing more unlike Windows which have ‘Startups’ which makes the computer runs more extra unnecessary programs
Shutting down is just the reverse of booting up
3)Windows would be more stable since you pay for it and its made by Microsoft, which is one of the richest company’s in the world?
Just because you paid for it does not mean it is good it just means they are out to make money
Depending on the status of your XP, the hardware your computer is using, and the Linux Disptribution you are using, could make that specific Linux. Since Linux is developed by users, it was designed to manage files like any other OS, but without all the bulk and registration clutter that fills Windows and MAC computers. There are certainly some things Windows can do that any Linux OS cant, but theres less clutter and mass to linux, so your PC can distribute RAM and use the CPU more efficiently, thus making a faster Operating system.
Cuz your XP has too much junk in it’s trunk!
well those other OS should run faster than XP, it is just that XP is more compatible with other stuff. But to make your XP a little faster:
1) Defrag your hard drive regularly using Auslogic Disk Defrag
2) Do regular registry and "junk" file cleanups using CCLEANER.
Welcome to Linux
Why does your PC run better and faster? because Linux is an operating system that has been reviewed, checked, improved, and polished by many thousands of contributors for nearly 20 years. The sole purpose of these contributors is to make Linux better, not to make money, not to force the public to upgrade to more powerful machines, not to create some "patent" that will freeze the competition out.
Linux has grown to be new standard for servers and business systems. It is steadily replacing Unix, Solaris, and HPUnix as the mainstay of the "back office"
So it is no surprise that your computer is faster and more reliable – the operating system is cleaner and more efficient.
So why don’t we all run Linux? It’s simple – Apps – Apps – Apps
Many companies have their entire product lines based on Visual Basic. Companies like Intuit (Quicken, TurboTax), Autodesk (AutoCad) and Adobe (Photoshop) have invested millions in designing their programs around Microsoft and Windows. It will cost them a lot of money to port these products to Linux and they cannot be sure there will be a large enough market out there to generate a return. So they don’t do it, and you and I, the end user, must live in Windows because we can’t get the native apps we need.
As long as MS keeps the ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) in their back pocket, we will be stuck with Windows for out desktops
