How do I allow a virtual PC network access without allowing the host OS the same?
I’m using XP along with Microsoft Virtual PC to run a Windows 98 Operating system for internet usage. My goal is to keep the host operating system offline completely and to use the virtual machine exclusively for web access. The only thing I know to do is disable my network connection on the host OS (XP) which also disables 98′s network capabilities. Any help would be appreciated.
you cant. the host acts as a NAT to the virtual, so if you disable internet on the host, it kills the virtual also
take down yuor firewall

I would think off the top of my head that this can’t truely be done….
I am not able to test this but try this….
Have your VM have its networks settings as a BRIDGE connection.
Then on your host PC just give your some some BS IP like 192.5.5.5 also a BS DNS server like 127.0.0.1.
Not sure if that will work, but the way a bridge connection works it MAY work.
Or, you can just manually set your host machines DNS to some BS number, i KNOW that will work. You truely won’t be "offline" but it is about as close as you will get.
