The reason I say it's risky is because the website or even the tool you're using could contain a virus that can install on your laptop that you're virus scanner may not be familiar with (a malicious code is being made every day by someone out there) and as a result will effect your laptop by either destroying files or even stealing information. It sounds like to me you travel a lot because of a job requiring it perhaps or maybe you live right by a hotel and you know you can pick up their signal. If I'm correct about you having a job that requires you to travel frequently, I think you could afford the $9.95 as that'll be a whole lot cheaper than paying your boss the bill he/she will give you to have that computer fix and top of them firing you and that's being the best case scenario. The worse case scenario, being liable if by chance personal company information (i.e. customer accounts) was stolen off of that laptop as a result of your negligence of downloading some stupid hacking program to save yourself $9.95. If I was conducting business with a company who had an employee that did something like that, I'd be mad and sue the heck out of that company and the idiot employee.
