If an image says "GNU Free Documentation License" does that mean you can use it?

Can I use this image for free without getting into trouble?

This is what’s called a "copyleft" provision: you can use it as you like, but any derivative work you make of it must have the same license. (In other words, you can’t make a copyrighted image using that image as part of it.)
