I have a laptop that currently has Windows 7 installed.
I want to install Linux on the computer as well, and have the choice to boot into either of them.
How can I do this? Please elaborate on the formatting/partitions part, as this seems to be very unclear anywhere I have looked.

I’m am a CS student and planning to buy laptop, because its more portable than using desktop computers for programming.

For me its quite hard to choose between Macbook pro 13 and some Windows laptops(like Vaio, Dell…)

For instance the compiler and debugger. I am a computer science major in college. I haven’t started my classes yet and I’m looking for a laptop. Does programming use a lot of memory and processing speed?

I’m asking this because I eventually want to learn c++ but on a open source ide. The reason I don’t want to use visual studio is because I have to put extra stuff. Also how do I get an open source ide working on a 64 bit windows 7 laptop. Email me for more details.

Why do many public institutions, such as schools and libraries, block reputable open-source software websites?
My local public library recently installed new internet filters for both wired and wifi connections. Sites like SourceForge and PortableApps are now blocked, even if using your own laptop through a wired or wifi connection. The library IT guy says the blocks were a requirement from the filtering provider, but that seems rather unfair.

I’ve been trying to start my own business of with some little bits and bobs and i need a laptop that is the best for programming and software design, i don’t know which laptop is the best. I have heard of the lenovo think pad to be the best but i’m still unsure.
