How to explain importance of open source software to normal computer users?

I have to explain to a group of normal computer users on what is the importance of open source software. What points are suitable for explaining it to users that only knows things like youtube,facebook,ms windows and ms office

What does Microsoft Office have over OpenOffice, LibreOffice, and other Open Source alternatives?

Just curious. What are the key features that MS Office has over other free word processors that make people pay hundreds of dollars for it? I am by no way saying that Open Source is better than proprietary software, in fact, most proprietary normally has more user-friendly options and sometimes more features, but I think people should consider it.
Open Office and Libre Office is compatible with MS Office files too.

Is this legitimate? Does the GNU license allow for resale of OpenOffice like this?

Just curious. I use MS Office most of the time, but I’ve been a fan of OpenOffice since its StarOffice/StarWriter days, and I still rely on it on one of my computers.

How do I work with “open-source” programs?

i want to download and use KWORD as a word processor instead of MS Office because my trial expired for that, but i dont understand how to download KWORD. I read that its an open-source program and all i find to download for it are source files with extensions like .tar.bz and .tar.gz/.tar.gz2 and its really confusing. i just want to use Kword, i dont want to configure it or anything! can someone please explain this to me?
