My old one came with a program that would automatically back up my files at a certain time every day. My new hard drive came with a few programs like that one – but they all cost money. I was wondering if there were any Open Source or free programs that I could download to use.

I want to transfer all of my files and settings except for the OS, to make the computer run smoother. Is there a way to leave only the OS on this old drive and to move all other things including settings and stuff to the new drive? Is it possible to just see the drive in Windows (xp pro) and drag the old one to the new one?
