What is the best way to start learning programming?
I know Java and C++, I am working into my CS BA, but how do I go on further outside my classroom?
I want to improve my programming skills and maybe take on a open source project so I have something to put on my resume, anyone who is experience in programming please help.
Can you also help by putting your personal experience on how you became a programmer and got a job into the field?
I want to develop software and apps : ) thanks
Where can I make an online portfolio for programming?
I need to make an online portfolio to show my programming projects and add to my resume. I’m a computer science student and I wanted to know what are good (and best I guess) sites to make online portfolios with?
How does one get a job in programming?
I want to get into programming but am unsure where to start. I already have a Bachelor’s (two actually) and don’t really want to fork up the money for more education (and would like to learn on my own); now that I’m OLDer, I have more discipline to study but need some help in how to go about this. More detailed questions are:
1. What programming languages should I study?
2. How do I gain programming experience so that I can build up my resume (in order to obtain a job that requires experience)?
3. Do you know of any good books I can buy to start in programming?
Thanks!
What is the best linux distribution for learning to use many?
First, a bit about my background.. I currently work as a Network Engineer, mainly with Cisco routers/switches and VPN devices. I am throughly familiar with Windows, both as a workstation and server, and have one more test to go to complete my MCSE. However, I have no real experience with Linux, and feel like this is both a hole in my personal knowledge and in my resume.
I can do basic user stuff both from a command line and in Xwindows, but have no real command of it.
That said, I intend to rectify this. I want to start using Linux as my primary operating system on my personal PC, as I feel this is a great first step to really force myself to learn it. I need to know what distribution would be best for me to use. My concern is some of them seem to have alot of propriatary tools that are not found in other linux distros, I want to find one to learn on that will best allow me to be comfortable on any linux distro I run into in the future. Thanks much for your advice!
