I am interested in programming with Visual Basics or C++. Also are there any free open source compilers I can practice on? Are there any sources on YouTube or website that teaches people how to program from scratch?

I know some (extremely limited and possibly irrelevant) programming techniques from programs such as Scratch and GameMaker. Is there any easy (understandable for beginners) and free tutorials around that would allow me to learn programming that I could develop (by experimenting and looking at tutorials) into skills that would allow me to create programs, etc. It just has to start with the basics, preferably not using language that I do not know of and not using programs that I have to buy or have a large download. Thanks!

I’m starting to get into programming because I want to go on and go to school for some sort of programming. Now i’m going to learn Java and it’s all fine and dandy to know the language, but how do I apply it? In other words how do I make a program from scratch with Java. I just don’t understand how it is done.

Not like a proboards, but something I can create from scratch. I’m a total n00b at code btw.

Out of the park baseball 11 is the game. If you wanted to code a similiar sports game from scratch how long do you guys think it would take to code ootp 11 assuming you code 4 hours a day?

I’ve been using CS4 and just seem to battling against it instead of it working for me. Is there something better? Must be code based, not WYSIWYG. Also, I’ve been using Prototype, but not enough to regret leaving if I have to. I need to learn to code scratch before I use a framework too much.

I know next to nothing about programming or web design.

My question is, if I wanted to create a respectable looking website from scratch, not using a CMS or frontpage or anything like that..How long would it take me to acquire the neccessary skills to do so?

And what would I have to learn?

I would appreciate any info, I want to know whether its worth it to invest time/money into doing so.

I have to clear everything off a computer, including the OS. How do I go about wiping the HD, and starting over from scratch?
I mean, all the way down to the core, where just the MOBO is running the show.
