I am starting an a social networking-type sight targeting Chinese users. Are business model is based on businesses marketing to users of our social network. I am currently searching for freelancers to build the site for me. If they use an open source content management system or other open source frameworks in the site, will I run into legal problems or have to pay licensing fees to someone?

What is the best open source social networking platform that i do not have to download and is easy to use for someone who knows nothing about programming?

I want to know if there is a list of open source social networking platforms. I would like to build one as a topic of my thesis but it is in terms of education and campus services (used by university members suck as students, professors, administrative personnel etc), is there anything you have to propose?

Preferably in PHP/Mysql since i am a bit poor in other languages.

I am looking to start a social network for my company and I am wondering if anybody knows of a good open source PHP based solution. I have found a few scripts worth considering like phpfox. Can anyone suggest a better script? I am weary of using free software for obvious reasons, you get what you pay for, your site really isn’t yours…The list goes on.. Thanks in advance.
