If you want to work in the games industry, find a university that teaches a BSc Computer Games Development. It's a course that came about a few years back at like 2 unis, now loads do it. You study 2d and 3d art, and programming (and other stuff of course).

One other thing, that is the MOST important thing: Get some work experience at a game developer!!! If you have no work experience, you won't get a job easily unless you develop a game yourself and publish it (see XNA Creators Club).

Programmers make more money, but it's best to do what you love.

If you could find a school that is technical is better than studying theoretical game programming. However, make sure that the technical school will get you employment and it's doesn't exist to collect money from student. Also, check what you will be studying at this school to make sure it's the best program that is out there.

I don't think a degree in gaming simulation is a good idea. I heard they never hire people with such degrees. Also I'm pretty sure the programmers make more money than the artists. Get a normal CS degree, that way if you can't get a job in the gaming industry, you'll have lots of other options.

I think studying Adobe Flash would be a good idea. The community college might have a game programmer certificate.

If it were me, I'd go with the BS in Computer Science. It's more marketable if the whole gaming thing doesn't go through. You'll also want to study game programming/development on your own as a hobby. If you can bring in a playable demo to a job interview, they will be much much more likely to hire you.
