Wich open source software can I use to create electronic magazines and articles in pdf?

Or any other portable format.
Is there any free or open source soft to do that?
And is there any paid software? Any Adobe product?
Thanks!

OpenOffice.org at http://www.openoffice.org/ will save your files as PDF files. OpenOffice is essentially the same as Microsoft Office except that it’s completely free.

Open office will work, but I personally use PDF995. There is a purchasable version, but you can download a free version as well from:
    http://www.pdf995.com/download.html
The website will explain how it works in detail, but it essentially acts as another printer. Say you are in Microsoft Word and you want to save the file as a pdf. Click "file", then "print" after you have installed pdf995. Select pdf995 as your printer from the drop down menu and it will be created wherever you want to save it.
    Hope this helps!
